General George C. Marshall
General George Catlett Marshall
General Marshall was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on December 31, 1880. Marshall served as the U.S. Army Chief of Staff during all of World War II, being appointed to that post before the U.S. had entered the war. He was the chief military adviser to President Franklin D. Roosevelt and many of the top commanders were appointed or approved by him including Eisenhower. He died October 16, 1959.

GENERAL OF THE ARMY GEORGE C. MARSHALL was graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1901 and commissioned early in the following year. He served on the staffs of the First and Second Armies in World War I. In July 1938 he became Assistant Chief of Staff, War Plans Division, General Staff, and in October was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army. In September 1939 he became Chief of Staff of the Army.
