82nd Airborne Division History on Film

This Invasion of Normandy film shows the actions of the men of the 82nd Airborne Division as recorded by the 165th and 166th Signal Photo Companies, during the historic operation of the Normandy landings that started on D-Day, 6 June 1944. Combat Reels has researched and compiled all of this raw combat film footage, then reformatted it into the DVD format for your viewing pleasure.

The military history footage in this video is intended to be strictly that of the 82nd Airborne Division and only shows other unit footage when two or more units are intertwined. This video covers from May 27th , a few days before the invasion, as the 82nd relaxes and is reviewed by Gen. Gavin in England to the time that the Division was returned to England in July 1944, after a successful deployment. The Parachute Infantry Regiments as well as the Glider Infantry of the 82nd Division are represented here.

82nd Airborne Division DVD Highlights

Great for veterans, families, military historians, researchers and enthusiasts, some of the images included on this DVD video are soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division loading Gliders, and helping each other suit up before loading the jump planes. Then the first days of the invasion are shown as mixed units of the 82nd and 101st hold towns like St. Mere Eglise and St. Marcouf. Many images show wounded men being attended to at the 128th Evacuation Hospital and of officers questioning German POWs. The key town of Ettienville is represented as the GIs and commanding officers of the 82nd walk through town after its capture and celebrate with the local French people. There is also coverage from the action of the Division at Hill 131 in the Foret de Mont Castre. Next the division loads large LST transports for a boat ride back to England. Finally the 82nd Division marches for a review by General Eisenhower after returning to England.
