This DVD about the 3rd Infantry Division takes place in World War II during the Fall of 1944, Europe.
On August 15th, 1944 the 3rd Infantry Division, also known as "Rock of the Marne", were assigned to VI Corps of the U.S. Seventh Army, with the assignment of participating in the invasion of the southern coast of France in "Operation Dragoon" and would land at Alpha-Beachnear Cape Cavalaire, France.

Our Series II DVD, "Liberation of Western Europe", begins here and continues through to late October 1944, as men of the 3rd Div. receive awards while pushing towards St. Die, France. The contents of this video show the action as was recorded by the 163rd Signal Photo Companies, during this historic operation. The military history footage in this video is intended to be strictly that of the 3rd Infantry Division and only shows other unit footage when two or more units are intertwined. Combat Reels has researched and compiled all of this raw combat film footage, then reformatted it into the DVD format for your viewing pleasure.

The first clips show men of the 3rd Division loading their transports at Pozzuoli, Italy and practicing for the invasion. Next troops are launched from their transport ships and assault the beaches at Cavalaire and Pampelonne from their LCVPs. Soldiers push inland to reach and capture Pont de Bayeux, Aix de Provence, and Montelimar. Next the 3rd Div. moves through Quingey, Larnod, and into Besancon. The division then moves into Epinal as they are greeted by Nuns and civilians celebrating their liberation. General O'Daniel and the 3rd Div. HQ are visited by Generals Marshall, Devers, Patch, and Truscott. The series closes out with images of ceremonies for men of the 3rd Infantry Division receiving awards ranging from the Bronze Star to the Congressional Medal of Honor.
